Get started with your real estate license.

Getting your real estate license has a few general requirements. You must be 18 years or older, a citizen of the U.S. (or non-citizen national or qualified alien under Federal law), have a valid Social Security number, and satisfy one of the following license qualification options:

o 75 hours of completed classroom time of the     
 or
o Licensure as a real estate salesperson or broker in another state or
o Completion in another state of a real estate salesperson pre-licensing course of at least 75 classroom hours or
o Education and/or unlicensed experience in real estate equivalent to the Broker Pre-Licensing course or
o Licensure in another state that has reciprocity with North Carolina (see note below)

You must pass the real estate license examination (exceptions: persons eligible for licensure by reciprocity and some license reinstatement applicants) and satisfy the North Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) requirement to have requisite character to be entitled to licensure.

Note: As of January 2009, NCREC has reciprocal licensing arrangements providing for waiver of the license examination with the following states: Alabama, Arkansas,  Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.  Special requirements and provisions apply in certain states.  Please contact the North Carolina Real Estate Commission for further details.
